Main focus of this month’s workshop is to work ondoor prizes for upcoming Spring Bonsai Exhibition.  Please bring your donation plants and tools.  John Kitagawa will arrange for plastic potsto place the trees that will be donated for door prizes.  Soil will be available for purchase.

Mammoth Bazaar XI

NO Beginner’s Workshop this month.  Instead of the Beginner’s Workshop, you areencouraged to take advantage of the GSBF Golden State Bonsai Collection-North’sMammoth Bazaar XI on Sunday, February 24, 10AM to 5PM.  It will be at the Lakeside Park Center, LakeMerritt, Oakland.  There will be lots ofvendors and demonstrations:  Mike Pageand Ruben Guzman will be doing the demonstration in the morning and LindsayShiba from southern California will be in the afternoon.  Kathy Shaner will be conducting  critique tours of the Collection-NorthBonsai and Suiseki Display Garden in AM & PM.  A ticket must be purchased for Kathy’s critique.

March Beginner’s Workshop

March Beginner’s Workshop is scheduled for March 17(Sunday) 1-4:00 p.m. at Gary and Takako Atkinson’s home at 527 Chynoweth Ave.,San Jose.

 

SJBBC Show Planning Meeting

The Food Committee meeting and the Show Planningmeeting were held on February 12th for our Bonsai Exhibition to be held onApril 6-7 with the setup on April 5. Harry Hirao from Huntington Beach will be doing demonstrations on bothdays, as well as workshop on Sunday morning from 8-12.

·  Initial arrangements forfood preparation were discussed and  theDistrict chairpersons will be contacting you for your help in various foodpreparation and other assistance.

·  Workshop with HarryHirao is planned for April 7 (Sunday) 8-12. Please contact John Kitagawa, if you are interested.

·  Plant ID needs to beturned in to John Kitagawa by March 31. Please identify all the plants and suiseki that you are planning toshow.

Forthe Show, each member should donate 2 or 3 plants toward a door prize or forthe plant sale.  If you haven’t already,please start working on these now.  Thenext workshop on Feb. 26 is also dedicated for this purpose.

2002 Dues Are Past Due

San Jose Betsuin Bonsai Club are dues for 2002 is overdue.  If you have not yet paid the dues,please   send a check made out to “SanJose Betsuin Bonsai Club” to Mrs. Ruth Ishizaki at 2018 Yorkshire Way, Mountain View, CA 94040.  It is $20 for single or $25 for a couple.

6-7       SanJose Betsuin Bonsai Club 32nd Annual Spring Exhibition at the San JoseBuddhist Church Betsuin, 640 N. Fifth Street, San Jose.  Hours Saturday 12 Noon – 5 p.m. and Sunday11 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Demonstration at 2p.m. both days by "Mr. California Juniper", Harry Hirao from Huntington Beach, CA.  Door prizes.  Plants,pots, tools, soil, and accessories sales.

 

20-21   CherryBlossom Festival 35th Bonsai and Suiseki Exhibition in San FranciscoJapantown at the Radisson Miyako Hotel. The San Jose Betsuin Bonsai Club willhave 5-6 tables for display with 7 other clubs.  Demonstrations on Saturday by Warren Clark and on Sunday by Dr.Seiji Shiba.  Members are encouragedto participate and assist.

 

28        SanJose Nikkei Matsuri at Fifth and Jackson, San Jose, CA.  Featuring artists, crafts, food,demonstrations, dancing, music and taiko drummers.  9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
