San Jose Betsuin Bonsai Club was founded in 1970 by members of Akebono Bonsai Club of Palo Alto. Through the efforts of the late Kiyoshi Mori (our first club president), Yasuo Hayashimoto, devoted guidance of the late Toshio Saburomaru sensei, and contributions of many others, the club was able to prosper. As the number of Issei (first generation Japanese) members gradually diminished, it is sustained by the younger Nisei and Sansei generations and others. Many of our club members also belong to other local bonsai clubs as well as California and international bonsai organizations and reach out and widen the activity areas.
